Least Saturday, on the 5th of February 2011, the first discs flew in the Cameroonian sky!! Thanks to Christian, who is the director of the youth house of Garoua, I had the opportunity to teach 25 kids between 12 and 15 years old what ultimate frisbee was and also how to play with this strange thing that we call "a disc"... This place is to give children the opportunity to make sport, music, dance and other activities when they are not at school. Christian and his colleagues are also working with children living in the street, to try first to find back their parents because usually they have some in town; then they host them and give them education paying school for two years. The third year, parents are asked to take back their child at home and to keep providing him education. If they are not able to do that, the youth house keeps taking car of these kids.

Before this first initiation, I left to Christian a DVD of the 2008 World Championship which occured in Vancouver. He showed this DVD to some kids and they were excited by this strange new sport, without any referee! By the way, how that is possible? "I gonna cheat!" This is what someone answered me whan I said that there was any referee on the field. I replied that in fact it is not true that there is no referee, everybody is and has to be a referee, and then they started to understand what kind of sport it was. Well, I expected 10 people at this first initiation (it's what Christian told me by phone...), we were 25 sharing 3 discs but we managed to make something interesting, endind the afternoon by a game of course. I was helped by Justin, who is working at this youth house. He is the first Cameroonian ultimae frisbee youth worker now!! Children were really interested in this new sport, running everywhere. Next training will be on the 19th February, I hope to see all these faces smilling again.
